An Eagle Court of Honor for Three Brothers

Three Brothers Earn Eagle at the Same Time

It’s normal for siblings to share things with each other. Clothes, tools, and even interests…but what about an Eagle Court of Honor? Just another thing to share for the Moreno brothers David, Daniel, and Simon.

That’s right, these three brothers all attained the Eagle Scout rank so close together that they decided to also share their Eagle Court of Honor. How does something like that happen? The brothers will tell you it wasn’t a coincidence. It was a combination of common interests and, of course, sibling rivalry.

“When I joined, Mr. Harkins (their former assistant Scoutmaster) told me I was going to be an Eagle Scout. I had to catch up,” said Simon, the youngest of the three brothers. Simon is currently 15, while David and Daniel are both 18. When he graduated Cub Scouts into Scouts BSA, his two older brothers had already reached their First Class Rank.

“Scouting has always been a full family activity for us,” Robert, the boys’ father and an Eagle Scout, said. “But it was really my wife who pushed me to be active again as an adult, even before we had kids!”

A full family is true. Younger sister Rebekah is a Cadette with Girl Scouts of the USA, and both parents are adult volunteers/leaders.

What else do the boys share? Well, they have very similar Merit Badges (Simon currently sits at 32 total, just several less than his older brothers. We’re confident he’ll match them though). They’re so similar, they all agree on their favorite.

“Cooking,” Daniel said. “Cooking merit badge has to be our favorite.”

“That’s a great story,” David added. Apparently, they all signed up for Cooking Merit Badge one summer at Tomahawk Scout Reservation. The counselor was a friend of theirs, so they had some fun adding ingredients to spaghetti. Let’s just say, the amount of garlic they used might be described as substantial. Thankfully, both their counselor friend and father were able to choke down the garlicy surprise while the boys laughed at the whole situation!

In their spare time, the brothers are members of the robotics team at their high school, Park Center. They all play string instruments (violin, viola, and cello) in their school orchestra. They also each picked Eagle Projects that involved woodworking and benefited their elementary and middle school (CAD is no problem for these guys).

The brothers had their Eagle Court of Honor on Sunday, May 19. Daniel was also recognized as the 100th Eagle Scout of Troop 106, David the 101st Eagle Scout, and Simon the 103rd Eagle Scout. What a great accomplishment, not just for the brothers but for their whole family and Troop 106. Congratulations Morenos!
