Providing direction to keep Scouting vital and relevant

Our Strategic Plan provides direction to keep Scouting vital and meeting the needs of young people and their families. Demographic and societal trend data were combined with input from leaders, members, and parents to select three imperatives that will drive programming through 2017.

  • Imperative 1: Meet the needs and expectations of today's families by expanding and diversifying Northern Star Council (NSC) programs, partnering with the current generation of parents and engaging our increasingly diverse community.
  • Imperative 2: Make the NSC volunteer experience more rewarding, accessible and well supported.
  • Imperative 3: Enhance NSC's role as a key player and critical partner in youth development (leadership and life-skills) within our communities.

To achieve these goals, each imperative has several strategic initiatives - broad tactical tasks to be carried out through specific, measurable objectives for each year of the plan.

Council and district committees, special task forces, and staff develop, champion, and implement these yearly objectives. Progress is monitored and shared at our board and president's cabinet meetings throughout the year. Modifications and enhancements are made during the bi-annual council coordinated committee meetings, which bring all committees together.
