How We Are Funded

Our Council is Funded Through Community Support and Fundraisers

The communities we serve recognize the importance of the work we do. Bringing the values of Scouting to life (like everything else) requires money. Because we strive to keep Scouting affordable for everyone, we often turn to our community partners for support. Northern Star Council is honored by the generous support of all our funding partners.

Friends of Scouting

Our annual giving campaign reaches out to individuals, businesses, organizations, and communtiy supporters for financial pledges and in-kind contributions.

Activity Income

Our eight beautiful camp properties host a variety of year-round activities. Registration fees from these are used to offset the costs of activities and property upkeep.

United Ways

United Way support comes from area United Ways and individuals who choose to designate their United Way gift to Scouting.

Foundations

Many corporate, family and local foundations support Scouting.

Special Events

Special events like the Distinguished Citizen Award Dinner, Hickey Golf Classic, and Community Builder Celebration raise the money necessary to keeping Scouting strong.

Popcorn Sale

The fall Popcorn Sale isn't just a great fundraiser, it's delicious! Local Scouts sell Trail's End Popcorn to raise money for both their local program and for Northern Star Council. Along the way, they learn salesmanship, budgeting, and the importance of paying your own way.

Investments & Endowments

The Council has an investment portfolio that generates modest income each year. Some income is designated to specific Scouting needs like camp maintenance or Eagle Scout scholarships.
