Looking for Adventure this Summer – Become a Campmaster!

The smell of pine, and campfires, gazing at the stars, hearing the crickets chirping – these are all things we crave after a long winter. You can experience these sights and sounds during a weekend away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life at Northern Star Scouting camps. Our metro camps are within a short drive from the Twin Cities and Campmaster Joe Ziskovslyhas would like us to share his story and make it a part of your story too!

A campmaster is an adult volunteer who assists our Rangers on the weekend with unit check-in, the Trading Post, equipment checkout, small service projects, and enriching a unit's overall experience. Campmasters have their own housing units with a complete kitchen, bedrooms, and a living room.  Some buildings have a fireplace, and all have a TV.

Joe and his Campmaster team are comprised of Phillippo Camp Staff Alumni who found a way to give back to the camp they grew up attending. In doing so, it gives them the opportunity to maintain their Scouting friendships and their camp connection.

Joe describes this opportunity as an oasis, a true escape from the 9-5 day which allows him to disconnect from the digital world. Comradery with Scouting friends and carrying on the tradition of Scouting to the next generation keeps him and his team coming back. They noted the pride and satisfaction that come from of a job well done while keeping the camp property in tip-top shape. Above all else, they value the humbleness that grounds them, and the benefits of their labor for the next generation of Scouts.

Our volunteer involvement allows us to keep our fees low while providing personal customer service. Our weekend camp properties wouldn’t be the same without it. We welcome you to join Joe and his team at this property or another, whether you're a camp alumnus, a leader whose Scouts have aged out, or just a fan of our camps.

All Campmasters will receive group training as well as one-on-one training.

Some volunteers sign up for several weekends during the year and others do one or two. The campmaster weekends start on Friday night and end on Sunday at noon.

We look forward to seeing you out at camp!
