2021 Fall University of Scouting Recap

Northern Star Fall 2021 University of Scouting was held on Saturday, October 30th. It was amazing to have everyone live and in-person at St. Paul College! With over 100 classes - including 20 brand new classes – there was something for everyone.

It goes without saying that creating course curriculum and presenting it to over 300 participants would not be possible without dedicated support from our team of over 60 volunteer Instructors. Thank you, Instructors, for sharing your subject matter expertise and all you did to make University of Scouting successful for everyone!

Special thanks go to our University of Scouting Chancellor, Rachel Thiemann, and our dedicated committee. We’d like to recognize Tim Sibley, Dean of the College of Cub Scouting, Lisa Fix & Deb Lerdon, Deans of the College of Scouts BSA, Faith Anderson, Dean of the College of Venturing, David Evans, Acting Dean of the College of General Scouting, and Brad Peterson, Dean of the College Youth Leadership. Thanks to supporting Committee Members Jessica Harrell, Lauren Johnson, Laurie Johnson, Jim Foster, and supporting volunteers Cheryl Reiners and Victor Thiemann. In addition, Brian Reiners created the patch design and our creative opening ceremony.

We also recognized Robert “Bob” Elliott for his many years volunteering for University of Scouting in various roles, most recently as Dean of the College of General Scouting. He continues to instruct a number of popular classes for us. Thank you for your service on our committee, Bob!

Thanks to everyone mentioned, and all the participants for their effort in making our “Back to the Future” return to University of Scouting an incredible success!

As part of our commitment to evolve and meet the needs of learners in our Council and beyond in the most convenient, effective and timely way, we look forward to creating extended learning through the following formats:

  • Monthly live Zoom programming around a timely and relevant theme like Program Planning, Youth-led Units, High Adventure Planning, Advancement, Working with Volunteers, Communications, Recruitment, Backpacking, Scouting Celebrations – COH/Blue & Gold, and more!
  • A carefully curated selection of online self-paced classes
  • Pop-up partnership events in areas both within and outside of the MN Metro area
