2022 Upper Midwest SCUBA and Adventure Travel Show

Explore Shipwrecks Without Getting Wet and Learn About Shipwreck Preservation in the Great Lakes!

Come experience something few people can—dive a shipwreck without getting wet! At the 3D Shipwrecks booth, you can wear VR (virtual reality) or Oculus glasses to explore one of ninety different shipwrecks, including some wrecks inaccessible to most because of their depth or remote location. This virtual experience immerses you, allowing you to explore the whole shipwreck from bow to stern. This incredibly unique opportunity combines technology and history into one unforgettable experience.

One of our great speakers is Ken Merryman, diver and underwater videographer.  Ken has just completed his sixth year on what was going to be a five-year adventure to circumnavigate the Great Lakes. Living the dream, Ken spends all summer cruising from dive site to dive site and lake to lake photographing and making photogrammetry models of the wrecks that are known and searching for those that are still missing. Since he started his journey in 2016, he and his partners have found ten new shipwrecks on three of the Great Lakes – some amazingly intact. They have also created photogrammetry models of over ninety wrecks and now use photogrammetry to document the state of each newly found shipwreck at the time of discovery. They’ve found it a long but rewarding journey. Join Ken as he shares video and the digital models of shipwrecks and narrates the highlights of his greatest expedition.

There are 4 other great speakers and topics; “Bottled Goodbyes” by Ric Mixter, “Perspectives of a Midwest Cave Diver” by Underwater Archaeologist Tamara Thomsen, “Cayman Island Diving”, “Traveling During a Pandemic” by Katrina Colby, Kirk Brust’s Ship Models, and more.
