2022 Webelos Recruitoree a Success
On a beautiful weather weekend of May 13-15, Scouts BSA, Webelos Scouts, prospective Scouts and adult leaders/parents enjoyed a new Scouting experience we called Webelos Recruitoree at Stearns Scout Camp. It was designed as a combination of a Spring Camporee and a Webelos introduction to the Scouts BSA experience similar to Webelos Woods or Webelos in the Woods from former District Activities.
Fifty-Three Webelos Scouts, 95 Scouts BSA, and 87 Adult leaders and parents experienced some of the best Scouting has to offer. Scouts demonstrated youth leadership and the Patrol method, setting up their campsites, teaching Webelos Scouts new skills: cooking for themselves, and creating Patrol flags and cheers.
Throughout the day Saturday, both Webelos Patrols and Scouts BSA Patrols competed in 8 different “Scout Games” requiring various Scout skills. These ranged from the traditional, like lashing a ladder from poles, to the modern, like experimenting to maximize the flight time of water rockets.
At the closing campfire Saturday evening, first, second, and third place winners of each of the Games were recognized with ribbons. A few skits and songs rounded out the program. Thanks to the Activities committee volunteers who planned and staffed the event and to the volunteers from the participating units who volunteered at the event to help staff the stations and keep scores.
Here is a comment from a parent of one prospective Scout to a Troop leader:
"I just can't express my gratitude enough for taking (name) with this weekend!!! I haven't seen him this happy, confident, and positive in a very long time! Thank you!! I would definitely like to sign him up for scouts (Troop number) and he is interested in going that week in June. Whenever you have a chance to send info about either, that would be great! Thank you so much again!!"
Put this item on our Pack and Troop calendars for next year. Be sure to coordinate with the unit you would like to be paired with.
