2025 Unit Charter Renewal

All unit charters in Northern Star Scouting will expire on February 28, 2025.

Earlier this year, Scouting America launched a new membership renewal process for individuals that is separate from Annual Unit Renewal. Members (youth and adults) are able to join Scouting year-round and their membership fees are tied to the month of their enrollment. Annual Unit Renewal will continue to have a renewal month. The Annual Unit Renewal month is now February for all Northern Star Scouting units.

Action Steps for Unit Leaders to complete their Unit Renewal

STEP 1: RECEIVE NOTIFICATION

The Unit Key 3 (Chartered Organization Representative, Unit Committee Chair, Unit Leader) and the COR Delegate will receive Unit Renewal notification from the My.Scouting on or about January 1, 2025 sixty days prior to the unit expiration date.

STEP 2: LOG ON

A member of the unit Key 3 logs into My.Scouting.org and clicks on Organization Manager and then clicks on Unit Renewal.

STEP 3: REVIEW ROSTER

To renew your unit, you must have:

• At least 5 youth who have paid their registration fee in that unit and the required number of adult leaders in required positions, and those leaders are current in YPT.
  • If your unit has less than 5 youth paid in your unit, or has a 50% or more drop in youth, or if your unit has 100 or more youth, contact your District Executive or District Director for council approval to renew.
• Required number of adult leaders in required positions*.
• Current Youth Protection Training for the renewing adults on the roster.
• Background checks completed.

The person completing the Unit Renewal process (e.g., Key 3 member or COR Delegate) must input their name in the Unit Renewal and Leadership Approval section and then click the Next Step button in the bottom right.

STEP 4: PAY

To renew by credit card or ACH payment online:

• There will be a summary page showing totals and directs the unit to pay.
• Please note: there is an ACH Payment fee of $1.00 or a Credit Card fee of 3%.
• Review Renewal Order Status page and print a copy of this page if a receipt is needed.
• Click the “Go To” Confirmation button in the lower right. The system will show that the payment is being processed and that the Unit Renewal order has been submitted.

Units may also pay at the Northern Star Council office.

*REQUIRED ADULT LEADER POSITIONS FOR UNIT RENEWAL:

• Packs = COR, Pack Committee Chair, Cubmaster, at least 2 Committee Members, and at least 1 Den Leader.
• Troops, Crews, Ships, and Post = COR, Unit Committee Chair, unit leader, and at least 2 Committee Members.
• Family Cub Scout Packs, female Scouts BSA Troops, co-ed Sea Scout Ships, Explorer Posts, and Venturing Crews, must have at least 1 registered female leader.
