Opportunities for Jewish Scouts

We have two opportunities for Jewish Scouts to support Jewish participation and advancement in Scouting.

Harold Ring Fund

Harold Ring was a Jewish Scout who attended the International Jamboree in 1939. Supporting his desire to make Scouting available to everyone, he established The Harold Ring fund in 2010. The primary use of this fund is for the religious emblems program for Jewish Scouts.

A religious emblem is one way to signify the hard work of a Scout to learn about their religion and customs. Available emblems include: (a) three emblems available for Cub Scouts; (b) two emblems for Scouts BSA, Venturers and Explorers; and (c) one emblem for adult leaders. The guidebooks and Jewish religious emblems are available through the National Committee on Jewish Scouting. The Harold Ring fund is also available for troops to purchase kosher meals for District and Council events. To learn more about these funds and other possible uses, please contact Bob Thielen at [email protected].

B. Jewish Committee on Scouting (JCOS)

The Minnesota chapter of the National Jewish Committee on Scouting supports the inclusion of Jewish Scouts and provides a post-high school scholarship for Jewish Eagle Scouts.  For more information on these scholarships, please contact Bob Thielen at [email protected].
