Strengthening Scouting: A Plan
As you know, over the past few months the board of directors for the Voyageurs Area Council, located in Hermantown, MN, has been having conversations with leadership of the Northern Star Council. Voyageurs Area Council asked Northern Star to accept two of their districts. Both boards and the voting members of both councils have now voted to combine our operations sometime before year-end, to include the five counties of Boundary Waters District and Arrowhead District.
Our territory will now include 26 counties in MN and 4 counties in WI, ten council camps including the Fort Snelling headquarters, a new service center/Scout Shop (in Hermantown), and the Northern Tier High Adventure Base would be included within our north territory borders. Over 35,000 youth, 740 units, and almost 6,700 leaders will be represented in the operations of the new team.
A steering committee made up of volunteers from both councils has been meeting to listen and determine the best way to serve youth and families now and into the future, with staff, events, new and traditional resources, and more.
Northern Star Scouting is excited to team up with Voyageurs Area Scouting volunteers, families, staff, donors, and communities.
We know this will be a win-win for all!
