Uses proceeds to provide two counties of foster care children with holiday gifts

JJ Werner sold an amazing amount of popcorn - $46K - and then used his prize proceeds to provide an amazing amount of holiday cheer! He says his motivation to support foster kids comes from his father who spent 14 years in foster care.

All told, JJ took his proceeds and the support of one of his corporate customers, Hayford Ford, to purchase $5,800 worth of toys – all requested by the children in Kanabec and Isanti Counties. He and his mother spent Black Friday buying the gifts and then recruited his troop, friends, and church members to join him in two wrapping parties to prepare them for distribution. As they delivered the packages, the social work staff at both counties were overwhelmed and extremely grateful.

JJ is a Scout in Troop 3506 in Ham Lake, MN, a very active troop which camps every month. When asked what JJ likes best about Scouting he responded “The life skills I learn, adventures and service - plus, of course, selling popcorn. I’ve learned to set goals and build plans” His sales have funded his Scouting experiences and have enabled him to also be a Scouting philanthropist.

Well done JJ!
