Troop 9045 at Fred C Andersen Opening weekend!
Troop 9045 from St. Paul, Minnesota went troop camping at Fred C Andersen Scout Camp June 26-28th. It was the troop’s first campout since the lock down began in March. The new Scouts who had crossed over in February had never had the opportunity to camp with the troop. This was their chance to finally camp and they all were eager to attend.
The troop had 12 Scouts and 5 adults attending this campout. Yes it was different but it was also the same! The Scouts had hand sanitizer and masks. They each slept in their own tent. They did individually cooked meals and used paper products… all of that was new and different. They also had a flag ceremony, service project, 5 mile hike, pioneering projects, campfire program and Court of Honor all of that was the same with the addition of social distancing and masks.
The camp had contactless check in and check out and all program supplies that we needed and asked for were graciously supplied by the camp Ranger.
Just 30 minutes away from St. Paul the parents had an easy time dropping their Scout off at camp and picking them up.
The campout was a huge success. Many of our first year Scouts received their Scout rank at their first court of honor and are well on their way to tenderfoot and second class rank!
Their smiles told the story... Even if many of the smiles were behind their masks.
It is time to camp! Get the Scouts outdoors and enjoy the beautiful Northern Star Scouting camps!
