Innovation Program and Grants
Dollars available for your ideas to strengthen Scouting
Have an innovative idea to make Scouting better, but need money to get it off the ground?
The Council Innovation Fund is our unique way to support new ideas that improve local Scouting. Grants totaling about $50,000 a year are distributed to units, districts, council committees, and even individuals for ideas that bring Scouting to a new level.
How to apply
To apply for a grant you must
- Complete an application
- Secure a staff member champion for the project
- Present your proposal to our Council Innovation Committee. The committee meets bimonthly to review projects.
Recommended ideas go to our Council Board of Directors for final approval.
Grants have ranged from $300-$50,000 funding a range of projects including our Lion Cub program to expand Scouting to kindergartners, a space camp pilot/NASA space station downlink day, online camp planning enhancements, mobile archery ranges, and development of a leadership assessment tool.
Innovation Committee Meeting Dates
- Generally the second Monday every other month, beginning on February 14.
Is my idea innovative?
Our committee defines innovation as: the implementation of ideas that create positive, significant change for Scouting within Northern Star Council. They place special emphasis on projects that further our Council strategic plan. If you have an idea, the committee would love to hear from you. Committee members are available to help you through the process.
