About BALOO (Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation)

Planning For Pack Outings: BALOO and Outdoor Leader Skills For Webelos Leaders

BALOO is a weekend training that includes a single overnight designed to provide an introduction to the necessary outdoor skills needed to facilitate a fun, safe and exciting camping event for your Cub Scout Pack or Den.

BALOO training covers topics from health and safety to the logistics of planning and running a successful camping trip for your pack. You’ll learn about program planning, meal preparation and food safety, camping gear selection, water safety, and campfire program planning, and you’ll get hands on experience with group games, skits and songs, and traditional Scouting skills like pocketknife use and safety, map and compass, knot tying, hiking, and first aid.

Being that overnight Camping is part of the training, you will want to bring your own tent, sleeping bag, camp chair, personal items, appropriate clothing for the weather, water bottle, notebook, pen, day pack.  Meals are provided from lunch Saturday through breakfast Sunday.

The next BALOO Training will be on May 20-21, 2023 at Stearns Scout Camp.
