What is University of Scouting?

The University of Scouting (UoS) is a fun-filled, hands-on opportunity to network and learn with over 300 Scouters. This one-day supplemental training event was created for all Cub Scout, Scouts BSA, Venturing, and Sea Scout leaders, plus Scouts BSA, Venturing, or Sea Scout youth regardless of experience. The University of Scouting events take place in the spring and fall. Be the best leader you can be - attend the next University of Scouting!

NEW UNIVERSITY OF SCOUTING FORMAT FOR SPRING 2025!

University of Scouting will be split into three different events!

 

 

Cub Scout University for Adults with a Day camp for Youth K-6.

April 12 - Base Camp TeamBuilding Center. Choose your own schedule from 20 different classes specifically designed for Cub Leaders while your K-6 kids participate in a special Day camp with games, climbing, and archery.

Emerging Leaders Program

April 12 - Base Camp Leadership Lab and Portal - Scouts and Venturers 7th grade and older get to participate in hands on leadership games, participate in a leadership assessment and learn how differing leadership styles work together.

ScOutdoor University

May 3 - Phillippo Scout Camp - Choose from a variety of outdoor skills based classes from Knots and Camping Tricks to Dutch Oven Cooking and Wilderness Survival. This is sure to be a great day of outdoor skill training.

FIVE COLLEGES PROVIDE COURSE OFFERINGS

Choose froma wide variety of courses with an emphasis on programs, skills, and resources to deliver high quality opportunities to the Scouting youth. New leader and position specific training is offered, making this a great way to get all your leaders trained. A vendor midway offers lots of exciting program resources, materials, and ideas for you to browse. 

COLLEGES

  • Three colleges are devoted to Scouting programs - Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, and Venturing
  • The General College offers classes of interest to Scouters across all programs.
  • The Youth Leadership College (YLC) offers The Quest for Leadership Program introducing the fundamental elements of Leadership. There are also a seres of classes for youth who are interested in expanding their leadership skills.

University of Scouting Options

"Traditional" In-Person Classes

Our in-person University of Scouting is offered twice a year, typically at St. Paul College. It is a full day event where you can take up to 5 class periods in addition to a lunch hour when you can visit our Midway.

University of Scouting Extension Classes

In-person training is not for everyone, nor is the date or location convenient for all. As part of our commitment to reach the widest possible audience, we are working to add a variety of learning methods to our toolkit. Check out the University of Scouting extension programs below:
